I want to up my stage performance and take it to another level by lighting the tips of my drumsticks on fire at the end of the set and playing. Ive done all the research about the actual drums and the effects fire would have on them so im not worried about that. I am just wanting advise about how to go about lighting the sticks and i figured some people here could help me. Ive been refered to paraffin for the sticks.

I've found a fantastic location for practising, you can even bring your own tunes! Mp3 players, laptops, phones etc, plug straight in to their sound system, no need to bring a lead, its' all there.

A dance studio in a very low-key STRICTLY NO POSERS gym. It is available 11am-6pm & 8pm-10pm weekdays and ALL DAY weekends and open to everyone. Entry fee for the DAY is ONLY £5, payable to gym not me! This also gives you access to the rest of the gym which includes a steam-room.. Which is lush!

The floor would not handle dropping your Staff on, unless it is well padded. They have gym matts, pretty much like the ones at school, which I surround myself with when I'm practising juggling, it mutes the constant donking on the floor~ hehe

It is available 11am-6pm & 8pm-10pm weekdays and ALL DAY weekends. So far I've been quite a few times now, enough to buy a membership anyway!

The floor would not handle dropping your Staff on, so soft toys only, poi, ribbons and what not...

Entry fee for the DAY is ONLY £5 payable to gym, not me!

This also gives you access to the rest of the gym which includes a steam-room.. which I've been loving using after a sesh.

All I need now are some fello spinners to come practice with me.

Eating fire is a sure way to get your audience going, relatively safe and good fun, It is a good way to end a Fireshow or impress at a wedding, Remember if you are not ending your show then you will need some way of re-lighting your torch quickly, some fire performers use two torches and alternate so they can keep one torch lit at all times.

First off let me explain how it works. think of the fire triangle



If you remove any one of the three elements then fire will be extinguished.
In the art of fire eating we remove the oxygen from the mix extinguishing the flame.
so to get started first make your safety checks.

make sure you are not alone, get a damp cloth, have a bucket of water ( or equivalent ).
what you are going to do is put the fire torch in your mouth but not touching, to do this you want to come directly downwards ( keep your mouth wide open ) now simultaneously start to close your mouth and breath out, as you close you mouth it will make the air come out faster DO NOT FULLY CLOSE YOUR MOUTH, AT NO POINT SHOULD YOUR MOUTH EVER TOUCH THE WICK OR TORCH. as you do this the air you are breathing out combined with the closing of your mouth will put the torch out, as you close your mouth around the flame you will be restricting the amount of oxygen that can get to the flame this will make the flame smaller and make it less scary.

Other than sound fire safety precautions and some practical advice regarding the laws of physics (i.e. "hot air rises"), there are few secrets to eating fire. There is no such thing as "cold flame" nor is there any special substance in the performer's mouth other than saliva. According to Daniel Mannix's 1951 sideshow memoir Step right up!, the real "secret" to fire eating is enduring pain; he mentions that tolerating constant blisters on your tongue, lips and throat is also necessary.

There are a few companies out there that teach fire eating and breathing such as Juggletastic, I would suggest attending a course for safety reasons.

We have a large line-up of activities already, and it would be great to have, in particular, some kind of fire-performance overnight for team members who have done lots of fundraising for us.
